WHAT IS LATENCY

Latency Labs is here to become a local hub for photography in the Sea to Sky Region. Currently, we’re focusing on being able to supply film, paper and chemistry supplies (with free local delivery within the S2S). We will also offer a free weekly delivery service to Burnaby, Vancouver and North Vancouver, if you live elsewhere across Canada we will ship to you!

We aim to grow into a hub for photography in the Sea to Sky Corridor. Our vision for the future is to provide photofinishing services for photographers from film processing and scanning through to fine art printing and studio space.

The success of our long term plan relies on growing at a sustainable rate and is the reason our rollout will focus on being a supplier of film, paper and consumables.

We can’t wait to help you make images.

Who is latency

Hi, it me. I’m Dylan Davies. I’ve been shooting film all my life, starting literally with toy Mickey Mouse 110 cameras when camping with my family. I really starting investing myself into photography when I was 14 though. My mom let me use her Minolta X-700 in High School photography classes and I fully went down the rabbit hole.

I spent my teens shooting photos at local punk shows, using close up filters to make, well, weird compositions and reading everything I could about photography. Particularly the Life Library of Photography.

I went to post secondary school at Emily Carr University of Art and Design to study photography where my close friends and myself dedicated ourselves to analog processes. I developed an even greater love for printing black and white photos in the darkroom.

Post ECUAD I worked for several years as a bike courier in Vancouver BC which lead to pursuing bike racing as far as I could take it towards being a professional. Now I work in Vancouver’s Film Industry as a Lamp Operator and as a freelance photographer.

Latency Labs is where my heart is leading me. I want to develop Latency from being a Local/Online shop into being a hub for photography in the Sea to Sky region and BC. Sharing my genuine excitement for physical images, negatives, prints and cameras has lead me to want to create something that celebrates analog photography.

My personal photography involves 135, 120, large format and digital cameras. I deeply love shooting and printing traditional black and white photos and archival printing papers. I love shooting sports, portraits, wildlife and recently have used my 4x5 more for landscape photography, trying to find connection to the landscape in the Sea to Sky. While I love shooting film, I’m not afraid of digital technologies (well, anymore) when shooting for clients, or my sports and wildlife photography. When it comes down to it, I just love photography.

Thank you for being here and supporting this dream as I grow it into a reality.
